Keeping Children Reading with Dzingi – In School and Over the Holidays

5D4 0745For many children, reading is a doorway to imagination, discovery, and confidence. But maintaining reading skills can sometimes be a challenge, particularly over school holidays when children are away from the structured environment of the classroom. Over Christmas, Easter, or the long summer break, even enthusiastic readers can experience a small dip in progress, affecting vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence.

That’s where Dzingi comes in. A retired teacher and dedicated volunteer with the Norfolk Reading Project, Dzingi has spent years supporting children in schools, helping them develop literacy skills and a love of reading during the school term. He knows how to make stories come alive, how to engage children of all abilities, and how to build confidence in reading, one story at a time.

But Dzingi’s work doesn’t stop when the bell rings at the end of term. He continues his reading support over the holidays, offering relaxed, fun sessions that encourage children to keep reading and listening to stories even when school is out. These sessions are designed to maintain progress, prevent the small “holiday slide” that can affect literacy, and foster a lasting enjoyment of books. Children are guided through reading and listening experiences in a supportive, pressure-free environment, ensuring that learning and fun go hand in hand.

The impact of Dzingi’s approach is clear. By combining professional teaching experience with a warm, child-centred style, he helps children see reading as something to enjoy, not just a school task. Over time, this builds vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence, while also nurturing imagination, curiosity, and empathy. Children who read regularly — whether at school or in holiday sessions — return to learning motivated, confident, and ready to tackle new challenges.

Supporting reading over the holidays is not about homework or pressure; it’s about continuity, inspiration, and engagement. With Dzingi’s guidance, children have the opportunity to keep exploring stories, maintain their skills, and strengthen their love of reading. By connecting school-term learning with enjoyable holiday sessions, Dzingi helps children develop habits and confidence that last far beyond the classroom.

Whether in school or over the holiday period, Dzingi’s sessions remind children that reading is a joyful, enriching activity — a source of adventure, discovery, and lifelong learning. Through his dedication, children are able to maintain literacy skills, nurture their imagination, and enter each new term excited to read and learn.
