Weekly Creative Play for Families
We are Magic Acorns, an early-years arts community rooted in Great Yarmouth, dedicated to creating meaningful creative experiences for babies, toddlers and their families. We believe that even the youngest children are powerful thinkers and makers, capable of shaping their own creative journeys when given the space, time and materials to explore. Our work centres on designing multi-sensory, artist-led environments where families can play, experiment and discover together in ways that are open-ended, non-judgemental and grounded in curiosity.
We run weekly sessions for children from birth to three and their grown-ups. These sessions provide accessible, inclusive opportunities for local families to engage with open-ended materials, sound, movement and sensory play. Each session is intentionally slow-paced and responsive, allowing children to follow their impulses, negotiate relationships and express themselves in their own languages of gesture, sound and imagination. By participating alongside their children, families strengthen bonds, build confidence and experience early-years creativity as a shared, joyful process.
Sessions are free but families need to book beforehand so we can manage numbers - our groups are small so we can ensure everyone's needs are met - both adults and children. We also offer referred spaces for families who may be experiencing challenging times or barriers to attending groups - these families do not need to book on each week and will be offered a reserved space on a termly basis.
Beyond these weekly sessions, our wider practice is shaped through collaboration with artists, educators and researchers who bring diverse perspectives and methods to our work. Through residencies, professional development and reflective practice, we support practitioners in developing approaches that honour children’s agency and attend closely to the subtleties of early-years communication and expression. This ongoing inquiry helps cultivate a creative community that values attentiveness, experimentation and care.
Together, we aim to build a culture in which early childhood is recognised as a vibrant, creative period worthy of celebration — a time when children and adults learn from one another, form meaningful relationships and create art that opens up new ways of understanding the world.
